I do not understand Sen. Biden's answers on same sex marriage.

Biden says in an Obama administration "there will be absolutely no distinction from a constitutional standpoint or a legal standpoint between a same-sex and a heterosexual couple." The Obama platform also calls for repealing the Defense of Marriage Act signed under Clinton. But then Biden says they do not support "redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage."

Can anyone explain?

Also, does Biden's climate answer mean he totally discounts sun/weather cycles as a factor in climate change?

Also, I guess the debate steered clear of church-state relations, guns, and sanctity of life issues. Those were some of the areas in which people seemed most interested in knowing more of Palin's thoughts.

KarenG: Here's a page from CNN that briefly describes all the candidates' positions on same-sex marriage and civil unions:

Hope that's helpful.

Yes, there was not enough time in the debate to get to many important issues, including the ones you cite. Too bad there is not another VP debate.

Thanks, that link was easier to understand.

Obama/Biden's proposal to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act is one of the "steps" to which Palin referred, I think, leading toward widespread legalization of same-sex marriage. It would have wide-ranging effects.
